Ocean’s Eleven (1960) [HD]

September 3rd, 2008 · No Comments

This is the original film that the remake with The Clooney was loosely based on. Though the cast was great in the original and the soundtrack fantastic, the movie moved slowly, the heist was off camera, and the Santos portion of the film was silly at best. It did have a fun ending. Nice twist. But I still like the remake better. The dialogue is snappier, the action is there, the reveal is fun and there is a villan. No villan really in the original, just a want for a heap of cash.

Raging Bull (1980)

September 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

Amazingly I had never seen this film before. It is on the AFI Top 100 films, so we added it in. This leaves 31 of the top 100 left to see and I fear I will not see them all as I don’t think I have any desire to see Titanic. But hey, who knows. I have the rest of my life to watch movies, maybe I will be overcome by some need to hear that dreadful Celine Dion song and break down and watch it. I have been informed that I have seen Titanic. I must have blocked it somehow. So I only have 30 films left on the list.

This was a bit slow moving, but visually beautiful film. The story was gripping and the acting was amazing, though I had a lot of problems with Cathy Moriarty playing a 15 year old. She never looked anywhere near the age her character was suppose to be until she was announced she was leaving him. Though her acting was great, the casting just seemed very off.

Visually interesting, a smidge predictable, but a pretty “nice” romp through the mind of a psychopath.

Elvis Meets Nixon (1997)

August 31st, 2008 · No Comments

Funny (and fairly unattractive) look at Elvis on his own in the big world in the days before he met President Nixon.

imdb.com

A “mockumentary” about Elvis’s real-life trip to the White House to become a federal marshal under the DEA, but meets the President instead. Along the way, the film exposes Elvis’s humor, drug problem, and even him pulling a gun out at a doughnut shop.

Becoming Jane (2007)

Charming little film about how Jane Austen became a ’spinster’ and great writer. The McAvoy was cute but played a guy who was sort of a dick.

Emmett’s Mark (2002) aka Killing Emmett Young

Somewhat slow moving film about a detective that has been told he is going to die of a terminal illness so he hires a hitman. The ending wasn’t that predictable which was sort of nice.

Alien³ (1992)

August 27th, 2008 · No Comments

3 down, 1 to go in the Alien series. This was dark and gritty. Moved fast enough to keep my interest. I liked it more than 2. Less mommy and me, more action and conflict.
